Rangers fall in Game Four, leave with a road series split against UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Regis University baseball team concluded its four-game series against the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on Sunday, falling by a 14-7 final.

With Sunday's outcome, the Rangers (18-15-1 overall, 9-7 RMAC) and Mountain Lions (9-23 overall, 6-10 RMAC) each earned a 2-2 split of the series and currently sit in fourth and sixth place, respectively, in the RMAC standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers held their lone lead of the contest in the top of the second inning, scoring two runs courtesy of an RBI triple by junior Garrett Rede. The Regis left fielder would score two batters later on heads up baserunning as Rede scampered home on the steal of second by senior catcher Reagan Guthrie to give Regis a 2-1 lead.

UCCS would answer with a four-run second inning of its own to retake the lead at 5-2.

Junior infielder Matt Graf would deliver an RBI double in the third, and pulled the Rangers back even at 5-5 in the fifth with an RBI single, but Regis was unable to plate a go-ahead run.

The Mountain Lions took the lead for good with four runs in the home-half of the fifth, and added insurance runs in the sixth and eighth innings, to build their cushion en route to the 14-7 final.

Graf would pace the Regis offense with his 2-for-4 afternoon and two RBI, while fellow junior infielder Clayton Conn finished 1-for-4 and lined his third home run of the spring just inside the right-field foul pole in the ninth.

Senior outfielder Levi Padilla (1-for-5) and junior outfielder Maxim Fullerton (1-for-3) each added singles on Sunday to extend their respective hitting streaks to four games.

UP NEXT
The Rangers will look to bounce back next weekend when they welcome in Colorado School of Mines to begin an eight-game home stand. Game One of the series against the Orediggers is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday at the Regis Baseball Field in Denver.
