DENVER, Colo. – Regis University Men's Basketball team defeated Adams State University, 84-83, on Thursday night. The Rangers improve to 11-8 (9-2 RMAC), while the Grizzlies fall to 8-13 (3-8 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Grizzlies would jump out to a 6-2 early lead, but back-to-back Jalen Page steals let to threes from Trey Bryant and Kobe Sanders for the 8-6 lead. Sanders and Bryant continued to supply the offense, until Jalen Brown converted an and-one to go up 16-13. Brown then threw down a dunk, and Sanders layup brought the lead to eight points, 24-16. Adams closed the gap to just two points, but Bryant and Sanders continued to stay hot from three, and Chase Mayo Harmon joined, hitting a three of his own with 2 minutes left, pushing the lead to double digits, 42-31. Sanders hit one final step-back triple to close the half, Regis in the lead 45-34.
The teams traded threes and layups to start the second half, but the Grizzlies began to chip away at the lead. Mayo Harmon converted an and-one, and Aaron Ofstun scored in the paint, but with 10 minutes to go, Adams even to the score at 61-61. The teams traded one-point leads, until a layup put ASU ahead, 72-69. Mayo Harmon hit two from the line that sparked a 7-0 run, giving Regis an 80-74 advantage. Eddy Egun and Bryant came up with big late blocks, and Sanders was true from the line, as Regis survived, winning 84-83.
"We roughed this one out," said Head Coach Brady Bergeson "I thought our guys rose to the level of the adversity in front of them. I'm very proud of the grit we showed tonight. There was just nothing easy about it."
GAME NOTES
· Sanders led all players with a career-high 36 points. Mayo Harmon added 15, and Ta'Veus Randle had 20 for ASU
· Egun led all players with 10 boards, also posting three steals and two blocks
· Bryant recorded seven rebounds, four steals, and three blocks
· Mayo Harmon dished six blocks
· The Grizzlies shot better from the floor, 50% - 47%, but Regis was better from deep, 48% - 43%
