HOW IT HAPPENED
After trading points early, Isabella Smith's kill sparked a 5-0 run that included kills by Brooke Sanford, Sabrina Landman, and Aaliyah Rodrakkwan. After a solo block by Braiziah Dixon, Highlands began to chip away at the lead. Two kills by Kendal Allaire kept the Cowgirls at bay, but after a Dixon kill, NMHU scored six of the next seven points to tie the match at 19-19. Sanford put Regis in the lead, 23-22, but Highlands scored the final three points for the win.
Smith earned an ace early in the second, and the Rangers took a strong lead, 10-4, behind four aces from Rodrakkwan. However, after a Landman kill, the Cowgirls put together a run of their own, going up 18-12. Bailey Nichols' kill ended the run, and Smith and Sanford produced kills, but NMHU still took the second, 25-17.
Nichols' kill to start the third sparked another strong start to the third set, as Smith, Allaire, and Sanford helped Regis take an 8-2 lead. However, Highlands responded with another huge run, going up 11-9. Sanford and Dixon interrupted the run, but NMHU still pushed the lead to 18-12.
