FULLERTON, Calif. – The Regis University Baseball team lost to California State University Los Angeles, 8-7, on Friday afternoon in the first game of a four-game series. The Rangers fall to 5-7 on the year, while the Golden Eagles improve to 3-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
CJ Difiglia would double in the top of the first inning, but Cal State LA took the first lead of the match with an RBI single in the bottom of the first. Both teams went three-up three-down in the second, but a back-to-back double and triple from the Golden eagles in the third helped give them a 3-0 lead. The fourth inning was more of the same, CSLA recording four hits, leading to three more runs and a 6-0 advantage.
However, in the fifth inning, Jack Moulin and Garrett Rede were walked, and Maxim Fullerton singled to load the bases. Then Matt Graf's sacrifice fly got Regis on the board, Peter GOldy singled for an RBI, and Clay Conn scored Rede with a sacrifice fly. Cal State added a bit more cushion in the bottom of the frame with a sac fly.
After a pair of scoreless innings, the Rangers had a huge eighth inning. Goldy singled to left field, and Conn and Adam Paniagua were walked to load the bases, and with two outs, back-to-back wild pitches brought home Goldy and Conn. George Smith stole second base, then a double from Moulin batted in Smith and Paniagua to tie the game at 7-7. But the Golden eagles took back the lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth. Ayden Harrison singled in the ninth, but was stranded as Regis fell, 8-7.
