SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Regis University Baseball team earned a 12-10 win on the road at California State University San Bernardino on Friday night. The Rangers improve to 4-1, while the Coyotes fall to 2-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Coyotes took the first lead of the game with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first to go up, 1-0. The second inning saw a solo homer for CSUSB, extending the lead to 2-0, and after two scoreless innings, the Rangers recorded their first hit of the game in the fifth frame, a single from CJ Difiglia.
Jack Moulin would then score on a wild pitch to get RU on the board, but San Bernardino would continue to score in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs on one hit, three walks, and one hit by pitch.
Regis would take over in the sixth inning, as Adam Paniagua rocked a two-run home run. Maxim Fullerton scored on an error, and Clay Conn recorded an RBI walk that brought in Garrett Rede. Mattias Sessing singled to left field, scoring Difiglia and Moulin, and Paniagua homered for the second time in the inning for the 10-5 lead. The Yotes added an RBI single in the bottom of the inning, but still trailed, 6-10.
Difiglia solo homered in the top of the seventh, but CSUSB chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI fielders choice and sacrifice fly. Moulin added one more run in the top of the ninth, scoring on Difiglia's single, and despite two sacrifice flies from the Yotes, the Rangers secured the 12-10 win.
GAME NOTES
· Difiglia went 3-5 on the day with two RBIs
· Paniagua went 2-5 with two homers and five RBIs.
· Zach Barnao added a pair of hits and scored two runs.
· Six Coyotes recorded a hit
· Colter Wilson (W, 1-0) earned the win, while Connor Batzer (L, 0-1) recorded the loss.
· Wyatt Zsidisin struck out five batters in 4.0 IP.
