DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Baseball team defeated Metropolitan State University of Denver in the final game of the series on Monday afternoon, 17-13. The Rangers move to 13-9 (3-1 RMAC), while the Roadrunners improve to 8-11 (1-3 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the top of the second,
Peter Goldy and
Ayden Harrison were walked, followed by a single from
CJ Difiglia.
Clayton Conn brought them home with a triple, putting Regis up 3-0.
Garrett Rede kept the hot bats going with a double to right, scoring Conn. RU went up 4-0 early in the game. MSU got a man on base, followed by a home run from Jackson, making it 4-2 Regis. RU added another run in the third when Difiglia doubled, and
Mattias Sessing brought him home on another double, putting the Rangers ahead 5-2.
The Rangers loaded the bases in the top of the fourth, and Difiglia brought everyone home on a two-out rally, giving Regis an 8-2 lead. The Roadrunners answered with a home run while a man was on first, scoring two runs and making it 8-4. In the bottom of the sixth, MSU's bats heated up, scoring five runs on three hits, taking the lead 10-8.
In the top of the seventh, Regis responded.
George Smith singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch, bringing the score within one. Conn got walked, followed by
Adam Paniagua bringing him home, tying the game 10-10. RU kept the momentum going in the eighth inning, adding two more runs and three hits on the Roadrunners, making it 12-10 Regis.
The Roadrunners recorded three runs and two hits in the bottom of the eighth, taking the lead 13-12. To start the ninth, Goldy got on base, and with smart baserunning, Difiglia brought him home, tying the game 13-13. RU's hot bats continued with
Ethan Wood doubling, and
Jack Moulin bringing Difiglia home on a single. Conn and Rede added singles, scoring two more runs for Regis, putting them up 17-13 as they headed into the bottom of the ninth. MSU couldn't answer, and Regis secured the 17-13 victory over the Roadrunners.
GAME NOTES
Difiglia would go 5-6 at the plate, bringing in four runs and four RBI's.
RU totaled 21 hits from 11 different Rangers, MSU 12.
Conn recorded five RBI's and 3-4 at the plate.
