DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Baseball team defeated University of Colorado Colorado Springs in the first game of the series, Friday afternoon, 9-6. The Rangers improve to 14-9 (4-1 RMAC), while the Mountain Lions move to 14-6 (4-1 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
UCCS would be the first on the board to start the first inning with a double followed by a triple, 1-0 Mountain Lions. Regis would get the bases loaded early in the bottom of the second, two Rangers would be hit by a pitch, Fullerton would add a single and Conn would be walked.
Garrett Rede followed with a single, scoring Moulin going up 3-0. Paniagua would double to left, scoring Rede and Conn, 5-0 RU headed into the third.
In the top of the fifth UCCS would add two more runs and two hits, closing in on the Rangers 5-3. RU answered with a home run from
Adam Paniagua followed by a double from
Ethan Wood.
Peter Goldy would get on base with a bunt and Wood would score on a wild pitch, 7-3 Rangers into the sixth inning.
Paniagua would start the seventh inning with a single, advancing on an error from the Mountain Lions.
Nolan Johnson would find first, followed by a single for
Zach Barnao, Paniagua would score going up 8-3. Moulin would score Johnson on a bunt, Ru ahead 9-3 into the eighth inning.
UCCS would homer one scoring two runs for the Mountain Lions in the top of the eight. The followed scoring one more run in the ninth, but it wasn't enough as Regis would take the win 9-6 over the Mountain Lions.
GAME NOTES
Paniagua would go 3-3 scoring two runs, three RBIs, adding a home run.
Regis recorded eight RBIs.
RU totaled 12 hits while UCCS recorded 15 hits.
Cam Bushnell would get the win for RU while Jason Fink would get the loss.
