LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Regis University Women's Lacrosse team, ranked #10 in the most recent IWLCA Division II Coaches Poll, earned their first win of the 2025 season with a 14-10 victory over Lock Haven University (Pa.) on Wednesday afternoon. The Rangers improve to 1-3 on the year, while the Bald Eagles fall to 2-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Madeline Schallmoser would control the opening draw, but LHU took the first two shots of the match, Brigit Goetsch saving one. Shea Murphy would put the Rangers on the scoreboard first at the 9:02 mark. The teams then quickly traded goals, Murphy scoring her second of the quarter, and the game was tied at 2-2. Despite Terah Skillings and Lexie Springman causing Bald Eagle turnovers, Lock Haven managed two more goals, and led, 4-2 after the first.
Lauren Sheets righted the ship for the Rangers early in the second with a Becky Goetsch-assisted goal, but LHU answered with another goal of their own at the 10:11 mark. Springman scored on a free position shot to bring the game back within one, and defenses would set up, neither team allowing a goal for the last 7:39 of the half. Brigit Goetsch saved a goa and picked up a ground ball, while Justine Spahr caused a turnover.
Spahr then started the second half with a goal, assisted by Becky Goetsch, to tie the game at 5-5, and after Brigit Goetsch saved a free position shot, Springman scored on one to put Regis back ahead, 6-5. Schallmoser added to the offensive effort, scoring on an assist from Becky Goetsch, followed quickly by another Murphy goal. Megan Bunker set up Spahr for her second score of the period and the 9-5 lead, but the Bald Eagles stopped the bleeding with two straight goals. Springman added one more before the end of the third, leaving the score at 10-7, Regis ahead.
Under a minute into the fourth, Murphy scored again, this time assisted by Sheets. After Abby Mays caused a turnover, Alyse Valdez would score her first goal of the season. Lock Haven tried to battle back, scoring the next three goals despite two more Brigit Goetsch saves. With five minutes left, Schallmoser ended the run, scoring on a free position shot and Springman scored the final goal with 3:32 left, assisted by Murphy, and brought the final score to 14-10.
