DENVER, Colo- The Regis University Baseball team defeats New Mexico Highlands University in Game One of the home series, 8-2 on Friday afternoon. The Rangers improve to 27-14 (18-5 RMAC), while the Cowboys fall to 10-31 (RMAC 2-23).
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
The Rangers came out strong in the first inning, sparked by back-to-back singles from Clay Conn and Garrett Rede. A fielding error by the Cowboys allowed Adam Paniagua to reach base and brought both Conn and Rede across the plate. Zach Barnao then roped a double to left, driving in Paniagua giving Regis an early 3-0 lead heading into the second.
New Mexico Highlands responded with a run on two hits to cut into the deficit, but the Rangers kept the pressure on. In the third, Barnao led off with another double, and Jack Moulin was hit by a pitch. CJ Difiglia followed with an RBI single to bring in Barnao. Maxim Fullerton added a base hit of his own, and an error by NMH allowed Difiglia to score, pushing the RU lead to 6-1. The Cowboys tacked on another run in the bottom half but left a runner stranded, making it 6-2 Rangers.
Fullerton extended the lead in the sixth with a solo home run, and Rede added an RBI single in the seventh to cap off the scoring. The Rangers closed it out, taking the game—and the series opener—by a final score of 8-2
