DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Baseball team defeated Colorado Christian University, 11-1, on Saturday afternoon. The Rangers climb to 20-11 (10-3 RMAC), and the Cougars move to 6-28 (3-14 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The lead-off batter of the game for the Cougars would be walked, and scored on an RBI double for the first lead of the game. However, the Rangers settled in during the bottom of the second inning, as Jack Moulin doubled, and was brought home by Maxim Fullerton's single. CJ Difiglia added a single that batted in Fullerton for the lead, and Ayden Harrison followed that with a single that scored Peter Goldy for the 3-1 advantage.
Both teams had hits, but ultimately stranded runners in the fourth inning, and the next runs scored would come in the fifth frame, as Garrett Rede homered, scoring Clayton Conn. After the Rangers retired seven straight batters, CCU singled to start the seventh, but the runner was left on third base.
The bottom of the eighth inning saw Zach Barnao launch a lead-off home run. Goldy helped the Rangers add another insurance run, as his grounder batted in Mattias Sessing, who had reached on a single. Rede batted in two more runs with a single, and Adam Paniagua brought the score to 11-1 with a double that brought home Rede and Conn. Colorado Christian loaded the bases in the top of the ninth on two walks and a Ranger error, but RU got out of the jam, and claimed the 11-1 win.
"It feels good to come off the bye week with a game like this," said Rede. "We started slow, but came together for a good win. Our defense played great, and we just know that with our offense we will eventually put up some runs."
