DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Baseball defeated Colorado Christian University, 16-8 in the final game of the series, on Monday afternoon. The Rangers improved to 23-11 (13-3 RMAC), while the Cougars dropped to 6-31 (3-17 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
CCU would be the first on the board bringing in one run in the first. Clay Conn started the batting for Regis singling to center,
Garrett Rede would bring him home with a home run.
Adam Paniagua kept it going with a double and
Ethan Wood sacrificed fly to center, bringing Paniagua home. Rangers would take the lead 3-1. In the top of the second, the Cougars found the bats again, scoring four runs leading 5-3. Rangers added one run in the bottom of the second, 5-4 CCU.
The third belonged to the Cougars, who scored two more runs, extending the lead 7-4. In the bottom of the fourth, Johnson and Conn started with singles, scoring
George Smith. Rede followed with a single, scoring Johnson, closing the gap 7-6 CCU.
The Rangers showed patience at the plate, putting together a 10-run rally in the bottom of the fifth inning on just three hits —a double from
Peter Goldy and singles from Smith and Paniagua. Rangers go up 16-7. In the eighth the Cougars added one run but could extend the momentum, Regis won 16-8.
GAME NOTES
Conn, Goldy, Rede, and Johnson would go 2-4 at the plate.
Rede homered and totaled five RBIs.
The Rangers totaled 10 hits and CCU recorded 14.
Wyatt Zsidisin earned the win for RU (2-2), while Austin DeMello took the loss (0-2).
