DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Men's Soccer team, who were receiving votes in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, cruised to a 3-0 win over Colorado Mesa University on Friday night in front of an alumni crowd. The Rangers improve to 7-3-3 (4-1-1 RMAC) on the year, while the Mavericks drop to 4-3-6 (2-2-2 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers came out of the gates hot, with three early corner kicks before Blaise Richard set up Liam Corr's goal at the 4:11 mark. RU kept the pressure on with four more shots and three more corners before CMU even took their first shot. They sent that attempt off the left post, then sent the rebound high. Regis had a huge response, as Corr set up for a corner kick that skimmed the heads of the Mavericks and found the net for the 2-0 lead. The Rangers closed half with seven more shots, including two on goal, while allowing none from Mesa.
Jacobo Betancourt-Tovar landed another shot on goal less than 15 seconds out of the break, and after a Zach Jennings save, Betancourt-Tovar put one shot high, then ran down Corr's pass for a goal, going up 3-0. The Mavericks did add to their pressure late in the match, adding three late shots, but the Ranger defense held stout, and won, 3-0.
