PUEBLO, Colo. – The Regis University Baseball team traveled south for a non-conference matchup against Colorado State University – Pueblo on Tuesday afternoon, losing 8-4. The Rangers drop to 5-4, while the Thunderwolves climb to 4-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
CSUP started the game scoring three runs in the bottom if the first inning, using four hits, including two bunts, and a Regis error. Ethan Ralph recorded the first Ranger hit of the game, a double in the top of the second, while Nicolai Arnold and Grayson Headrick both earned hits to lead off in the third. However, the Thunderwolves would be the next to score with a solo homer in the bottom of the frame.
RU got on the board in the top of the fourth, as Steven Kirtides singled to lead off the inning, and made it to third on Dylan Perry's single. A throwing error trying to catch a stealing Perry brought Kirtides home. With the bases loaded, another bunt brought in a Pueblo run, but Daniel Strohm ended the trouble there with back-to-back strikeouts.
Despite Arnold leading off the fifth with a double, a double play prevented the Rangers from adding any runs, and another DP kept Regis from scoring in the sixth, even after three straight singles by Perry, Ralph, and Aaron Kidd. CSUP extended the lead to 7-1 with a triple in the bottom of the inning. Linus Fleek, Max Killoren, and JJ Gines loaded the bases to lead off the final finning, followed by an RBI walk from Perry, an RBI single from Ralph, and an RBI fielder's choice for Derrick Kraus. However, the comeback bid ended there, 4-8.
