Billings Takes Two Games from Rangers

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Regis University Baseball team continued their road series at Montana State University-Billings on Friday afternoon, but lost both games, 8-1 and 20-3. The Rangers drop to 5-7 on the season, while the Yellowjackets climb to 6-4.

GAME ONE

After MSUB scored one run in each of the first two innings, Parker Burt was the first baserunner for the Rangers in the top of the third. Grayson Headrick was also walked in the inning, but RU scored no goals. The Rangers turned a double play to get out of the bottom of the third, and allowed just a single hit in the fourth.

Ayden Harrison singled to lead off the fifth, and made it to third base, but was unable to reach home, and Billings used two hits and an error to score four runs in the bottom of the frame. RU got on the board in the sixth inning, with Headrick leading off the inning with a solo home run. Bobo Iandoli reached base on an error, and Ethan Wood was walked, but the Rangers left two runners on base. After a scoreless seventh inning, Iandoli and Jack Moulni reached again, but two more runners were stranded. MSUB scored two in the eighth, extending the lead to 8-1, and Regis was unable to respond in the ninth.

GAME NOTES

·        Ryan Chesser (0-2) recorded the loss, with two strikeouts in 4.1 IP. Brennen Chappell (2-1) earned the win, throwing 8.0 innings and striking out 11 batters

·        Four different Rangers recorded a hit

·        Headrick was 1-3 with a run scored and run batted in

GAME TWO

The Yellowjackets would jump out to a strong, 5-0 lead in the second inning, recording seven hits, including a double and triple. Headrick earned the first hit of the game with a single in the third, but Billings added to their advantage with eight runs on 10 hits and an error. RU scored their first run of the contest with a two-out Wood solo homer, followed by a Dylan Perry double that brought home Harrison and Ethan Ralph.

MSUB managed to add another run to their lead in the bottom of the fourth, and another three in the fifth, going up, 19-3. The sixth inning saw a Steven Kirtides single and Grayson Wren walk, but no Regis runs, while a Billings homerun put them up, 20-3.

GAME NOTES

·        Six different Rangers recorded a hit

·        Perry went 1-2 with two RBIs

·        Ryan Garcia (0-2) recorded the loss with two Ks in 2.1 innings

·        Cade Queen (1-0) struck out five batters in the win
