DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Baseball team dominated Adams State University (Colo.), 17-9, in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Rangers improve to 7-7, while the Grizzlies fall to 1-12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
While the Grizzlies started the game hot, scoring two runs on three hits in the top of the first inning, the Rangers started even hotter, with Mason Pettingill posting a lead-off single, followed by an error and a walk to load the bases. Linus Fleek brought in an RBI walk, while Parker Burt scored two on a single through the left side. Three more hits and another error allowed two more ASU runs to score in the second, but again, Regis had an answer. Pettingill and Bobo Iandoli posted back-to-back doubles, and Jack Moulin was hit by a pitch. RU then scored on three straight batters, with RBI singles from Ethan Wood, Ayden Harrison, and Fleek. Harrison then scored as Fleek was caught stealing for an 8-4 RU lead.
After a scoreless third, Adams scored on an RBI single. But Burt's single in the bottom of the frame drove in Harrison and Wood. The Grizzles earned an RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth inning, but Regis put together a huge sixth, scoring seven runs on five hits, including a Burt solo homer, and a three-run shot from Harrison.
Both squads left runners on in the seventh, and the Grizzlies tried to mount a rally in the eighth, scoring three runs on three hits. But they would leave two runners stranded, and Andy Carillo made short work of ASU in the ninth.
