Rangers Bounce Back for Series Win

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis Baseball team split a doubleheader with Adams State University (Colo.) on Sunday afternoon, dropping the early match, 7-8, but rebounding for an 11-3 win late. The Rangers move to 8-8, and the Grizzlies now sit at 2-13.

GAME ONE

The Grizzlies opened the day with an unearned RBI single to centerfield to take an early lead. In the top of the second, Grant Belcher caught the batter looking, and Parker Burt caught the runner stealing for an unorthodox end to the inning. Dylan Perry earned the Rangers' first hit of the game, a single down the right line. But ASU extended their lead in the fourth, marking three straight singles to score one, then squeezing a sac bunt to set up another run on the fourth single of the frame.

RU was able to even the score in the bottom of the frame, as Ayden Harrison doubled with two outs, scoring Ethan Wood, followed by a two-run homerun from Steven Kirtides. Adams had an answer in the fifth, bringing in an RBI on a double, and two more on a single through the left side. Despite singles from George Smith, Mason Pettingill, and Jack Moulin in the home half of the inning, Regis did not bring in any runs.

ASU added two more runs in the sixth on three hits and a Ranger error. Trailing by five going into the bottom of the final innings, Bobo Iandoli earned a single, and Smith added a double. Pettingill was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and with two outs, Wood was walked for an RBI. Parker Burt wore a pitch to bring in another run, and Harrison added a single that scored Wood and Pettingill. But with the tying run on third, a fly ball to center field ended the game, 7-8.

GAME TWO

Two Grizzlies struck out, while a third was caught stealing to start the series finale, and Regis responded with an Iandoli double and Moulin RBI single. Ethan Ralph singled to score Moulin, and Park Romney kept the hot start going with a sacrifice fly that batted in Wood. Two more Grizzlies struck out in the second, before getting on the scoreboard in the third on an RBI double down the right line and RBI grounder. RU got two of those runs back in the bottom of the third as Ralph's grounder scored Wood, and Harrison came home on an error. Following a scoreless fourth, Moulin and Harrison recorded hits in the fifth; however, they were stranded on base.

Adams also had a pair of hits in the sixth, but were also left with out a run. The Rangers answered with a huge inning, starting with a Dylan Hearn single, followed by an RBI double from Pettingill, and an Iandoli RBI triple. A new pitcher did not improve things, as Moulin brought home Iandoli, and advanced to second on a failed pick off. A double steal put Wood on second as Moulin stole home, and Harrison batted in Wood with a center field single, brining the score to 10-2.

Following a quick seventh inning, Regis scored an insurance run in the eighth off a Kirtides single that scored Moulin. ASU managed to score a single run during their final time at bat, a wild pitch, but  a strikeout looking neded the game, 11-3.
