GOLDEN, Colo. – The Regis University Baseball team began a non-conference series with Colorado School of Mines on Friday evening, winning17-13. The Rangers improve to 2-3, while the Orediggers fall to 0-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mines took the first lead of the game, hitting a two-run homer in the bottom of the first. The Rangers would get on the board in the top of the second, as Ethan Wood led off with a single, and Mason Pettingill brought him home with a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the frame, Rocco Harmon picked off a runner at first, and struck out a batter to retire the side.
RU tied up the game in the third, with Bobo Iandoli being walked, and brought home by a Jack Moulin double. However, another two-RBI homerun for CSM gave them the lead again. They would add to that lead in the next inning with an RBI double and RBI single. The fifth inning saw George Smith score on a wild pitch, and Grayson Headrick be driven in on a Moulin RBI grounder, but also an RBI grounder for the Orediggers, bringing the score to 4-7.
Dylan Hearn and Pettingill both wore pitches in the top of the sixth, along with a hit for Ayden Harrison, to load the bases. Mark McNaney watched an RBI walk, and Smith singled, bringing in two more runs. To even the score again. RU kept the momentum into the seventh, with Hearn reaching on a fielder's choice, then scoring on Pettingill's double, and Harrison coming home on McNaney's single. Pettinigll scored on an error, followed by an RBI walk by Robbie Peppell, and an RBI fielder's choice for Moulin to put the Rangers up, 12-7.
Sam Fisher struck out the first two batters he faced, but with two outs, Mines put up four more runs. They tied the game in the bottom of the eighth, but Moulin doubled to start the deciding inning, followed by Wood being intentionally walked. Harrison was also intentionally walked, while Pettingill was walked to score Moulin. Linus Fleek then cleared the bases with a triple, and Smith added an RBI single. While one Oredigger scored in the bottom of the inning, Regis won, 17-13.
GAME NOTES
