Moulin Notches Two Grand Slams in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Regis University Baseball team dropped a doubleheader to start a series at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Friday afternoon, 12-17 and 9-20. The Rangers fall to 9-15 (0-6 RMAC), while the Mountain Lions improve to 17-7 (6-0 RMAC).

GAME ONE

The Mountain Lions would take the first lead of the game, finishing the first inning with four hits and eight runs. Leading off the second inning, Ayden Harrison was the first baserunner for the Rangers, followed by two singles from Jack Moulin and Park Romney, leading to a Harrison score. Regis would add two runs in the third, with hits from Ethan Wood and Harrison.

RU had a huge sixth inning, with a leadoff home run from Harrison, followed by a single from Moulin. Mason Grube would follow with a double to center field, sending Moulin home. The Rangers would finish the inning with two scores, while the Mountain Lions would remain scoreless since the first inning.

Regis would remain hot, opening the seventh with a single from Dylan Perry and a double from Wood, bringing in the runner. Harrison would hit his second home run of the day, bringing in Wood, and finishing the top of the seventh tied at eight. However, the Mountain Lions would answer, regaining the lead, finishing with seven runs off two hits. While Nicholai Arnold singled in the eighth, the Mountain Lions' bats stayed hot, bringing in two more runs. Bobo Iandoli would lead off the ninth inning with a double, and two walks loaded the bases for a Moulin grand slam, bringing in four runs. However, the Rangers' comeback bid ended there, losing 12-17.

GAME NOTES

·        Harrison and Moulin had huge offensive games, both going 3-5 with four RBIs

·        Perry and Wood added two hits apiece as well

·        Ruben Velasco led UCCS, going 2-4 with five runs batted in

·        Rocco Harmon (L, 1-3) recorded the loss, striking out four in 5.1 IP

·        James Harbison (W, 1-0) earned his first win

GAME TWO

Ethan Wood singled in the top of the first inning, but UCCS took the first lead on a sacrifice fly in the bottom, and would add eight more runs in the second on six hits. The Rangers began to battle back in the third, starting with a two-out Mason Pettingill double, followed by a pair of walks. Ayden Harrison then singled to score one run, and Jack Moulin launched a grand slam to bring the score to 5-9.

The Mountain Lions had an answer in the bottom of the frame, scoring 10 more runs on another eight hits and a pair of Ranger errors. George Smith added another homer in the fourth, bringing in Linus Fleek. After the first scoreless inning of the game in the fifth, UCCS scored their 20th run on an RBI double in the sixth. The Rangers scored two in the final inning, as Grayson Headrick stole third and reached home on an error, and JJ Gines homered to right field, but would get no closer.

GAME NOTES

·        Pettingill and Wood produced two hits apiece for Regis, while Moulin batted in four runs

·        Six other Rangers had one hit

·        Matthew Shipley was 5-5 for UCCS

·        Ryan Chesser (0-4) recorded the loss, while Christian Klehr (W, 2-0) picked up the win
