DENVER, Colo - The Regis University baseball team hosted Colorado State University Pueblo on Friday afternoon in the opening game of the series. The Rangers improved to 10-16-1 (1-7-1 RMAC), while the Thunderwolves are 8-14 (0-5 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers came out swinging in the bottom of the first inning.
Mason Pettingill reached base after being hit by a pitch, followed by a single through the right side from
Bobo Iandoli.
Jack Moulin got Regis on the board with an RBI, bringing Pettingill home.
Ayden Harrison kept the momentum going with an RBI single to score Iandoli, and Harrison later crossed the plate on a Thunderwolves error to give the Rangers an early 3-0 lead.
CSU Pueblo responded with two runs in the top of the third, but Regis quickly answered. Pettingill led off the inning with a double, and Moulin delivered again with an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-2. The Rangers added to their advantage in the fourth inning when
Linus Fleek doubled, and
Mason Grube followed with an RBI double to make it 5-2.
Regis continued to build momentum in the fifth inning. Pettingill launched a solo home run to start the frame, while Iandoli drew a walk.
Ethan Wood added an RBI double to score Iandoli, and Harrison capped off the inning with another RBI, bringing Wood home and extending the Rangers' lead to 8-2.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Rangers continued to apply pressure at the plate.
Grayson Headrick reached first on a walk, followed by a single through the left side from
George Smith. Pettingill added to his strong day with an RBI single to score Headrick. Iandoli kept the inning rolling with another base hit, bringing Smith home. Moulin then executed a perfectly placed bunt, allowing Pettingill to cross the plate, leading to the bases loaded with a walk for Moulin. Fleek would add a two-run RBI, and Headrick would end the inning with a single, bringing the score to 16-2.
The Rangers secured their first conference victory in dominant fashion, cruising to a 16–2 win over the Thunderwolves behind a seven-inning run-rule.
GAME NOTES
Pettingill would go 3-4 at the plate, adding 2 RBIs.
Iandoli, Moulin, Harrison, and Fleek each had two hits.
Every Ranger recorded a hit, adding 15 total hits, while the Thunderwolves had 6.
Rocco Harmon would get the win for RU (2-3) while Jacob Petersheim got the loss for CSUP (2-3).
