Thunderwolves Take Series Lead from Rangers

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Baseball team dropped a pair of games to Colorado State University Pueblo on Saturday afternoon, 3-10 and 10-17. The Rangers fall to 10-18-1 (1-9-1 RMAC), while the Thunderwolves improve to 10-14 (2-5 RMAC).

GAME ONE

CSUP started the game with two straight doubles to take an early 1-0 lead, but the Rangers got the run back in the bottom of the frame, as Ethan Wood's single batted in Bobo Iandoli. A pair of stolen bases got a Thunderwolf on third, and a homer gave them back the advantage. A double, a single, and a pair of RU errors added three more runs to the Pueblo lead in the third inning, and while Wood singled in the third and Linus Fleek singled in the fourth, Regis was unable to bring a runner home.

The fifth inning saw two more runs for Pueblo on three more hits, but also another runs for Regis. A Wood single and two walks loaded the bases, and Dylan Hearn batted in Wood with a single to right. Following a scoreless sixth inning, the Thunderwolves added a pair of insurance runs with a two-run homer. Wood singled to lead off the bottom of the seventh, and scored on Aaron Kidd's single through the right side, but that would be the final run for Regis, falling 10-3.

GAME NOTES

·        Wood went 4-4 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored

·        Six other Rangers had one hit

·        Jimmy Pelletier led Pueblo, going 3-3 with three runs and two RBIs

GAME TWO

The late game started with a scoreless first, but was followed by an explosive second frame. The Thunderwolves scored nine two-out runs, including six RBIs on singles. However, Regis responded a Wood single, a Parker Burt single, and a Fleek sac bunt, setting up an Arnold two-run single. Grayson Headrick was walked, and Smith singled to load the bases, and Iandoli cleared the bases with a double, brining the score to 9-5.

Neither team posted a hit in the third, but the Thunderwolves did score two in the top of the fourth on a single up the middle. RU got those two back, however, in the bottom of the inning with singles from Harrison and Moulin, followed by RBIs for Wood and Burt. Pueblo got two runners on in the fifth with a walked and wearing a pitch, and they scored on a double down the right line. Headrick reached on a fielder choice, and was brought around by a Smith double and Iandoli RBI grounder, brining the score to 13-8 after five.

CSUP started the sixth with three straight bunts, getting two runners in scoring position, and managed four runs on four hits in the inning. Regis recorded five singles in the bottom of the frame, from Moulin, Wood, Fleek, Arnold, and Steven Kirtides, and scored two more runs, but left the bases loaded. Harrison singled to lead off the final inning, but a double play doomed the Rangers, 17-10.
