DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Baseball team capped their series with Colorado State University Pueblo on Sunday afternoon with a walk-off comeback win, 5-4. The Rangers improve to 11-18-1 (2-9-1 RMAC), while the Thunderwolves fall to 10-15 (2-6 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Thunderwolves got three on in the top of the first, but the Rangers got out of the frame with no harm, including Mason Grube catching a runner stealing. However, CSUP was able to score in the top of the second, on a double followed by two grounders. Bobo Iandoli and George Smith both recorded singles across the next two innings, but the Rangers remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth. That is where Smith launched a solo homer to even the score at 1-1.
Pueblo responded in the top of the sixth, leading off with a single and scoring on a double. Following a sacrifice bunt, they pushed the lead to 3-1 on a wild pitch. A solo homerun in the seventh extended the CSUP advantage. Linus Fleek was walked to lead off the eighth, and made it to third before Ayden Harrison's single batted him in. Park Romney wore a pitch to load the bases, and Mason Grube evened the game, batting in Harrison and Ethan Wood with a single.
The Rangers made quick work of Pueblo in the top of the ninth, and in the bottom of the deciding frame, Fleek was hit by a pitch, Jack Moulin singled, and Wood was hit, loading the bases. A wild pitch allowed Fleek to take home, sliding under the tag for the walk-off win.
