Rangers Defeated Orediggers in Series Finale

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Softball team defeated Colorado School of Mines, 8-5, on Sunday afternoon after falling 11-1 in the early game of the doubleheader. The Rangers now hold an 8-22 (7-17 RMAC) record on the year, while the Orediggers move to 13-21 (9-15 RMAC).

GAME ONE

CSM jumped out to a quick lead in the bottom of the first behind an RBI triple, an RBI grounder, and an RBI single. Bella Bordine reached base in the second, but Mines added to their lead in the bottom with seven hits and an error leading to seven more runs and a 10-0 lead. In the third inning, two more hits from CSM brought around one more run.

The Rangers got on the board in the fourth, with Kiauna Smith singling down the left line, and scoring on Isabella Porter's double. Olivia Darby was walked in the fifth frame, and Adisyn Rademacher singled, but the game ended in five, 11-1.

GAME NOTES

·        Three Rangers recorded a hit, and Porter added an RBI

·        Nine Orediggers recorded hits

·        Caitlyn Potts (L, 0-2) recorded the loss. Madyson Ortiz (W, 3-5) picked up the win

·        Sophia Garcia struck out four batters in 2.0 IP

GAME TWO

Regis started the second game with three straight walks. Bordine's single batted in Olivia Wick, Smith's sacrifice fly scored Jane Quinn, Kristin Ingram's double brought home Porter, and Enyssa Dominguez's single scored Bordine. Ingram was able to score on an error, completing the five-run opening frame. After a quick second inning, Smith added a third-inning single and reached third, but was left on base,

Mines scored their first run in the third, with an RBI single, but Regis turned two on the next at-bat to get out of the inning. RU led off the fourth with back-to-back singles by Rademacher and Wick. Quinn batted in Rademacher, Porter doubled to score Wick, and Smith sacrificed to bring in Quinn, extending the Ranger advantage to 8-1.

CSM battled back in the bottom of the fourth, recording three hits and taking advantage of an RU error to close the deficit to 8-5. Quinn, Porter, and Smith loaded the bases in the sixth inning, but were all left stranded. Vanessa Candito caught two Orediggers looking to make quick work in the bottom of the frame, and CSM was only able to get one runner on in the seventh as Regis won, 8-5.

GAME NOTES

·        Quinn and Rademacher both posted two hits

·        Smith batted in two runs

·        Jessica Isbell stole a base

·        Kellan Ton went 3-4 with three RBIs

·        Sophia Garcia (W, 2-2) earned the win, and Vanessa Candito picked up the save

·        Taylor Wayne (L, 5-7) recorded the loss with three Ks
