DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Baseball team dropped a home, non-RMAC game to University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Tuesday afternoon, 8-6. The Rangers fall to 9-9, while the Mountain Lions climb to 11-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UCCS started the game with a two-out RBI single in the top of the first, but the Rangers quickly responded, with Mason Pettingill singling to lead off the inning. He later scored on a wild pitch, while Ayden Harrison brought home Ethan Wood with a single to center field. After three straight outs in the top of the second, Ethan Ralph took a base after getting hit, advanced on a George Smith single, and scored on a hit by Pettingill.
Regis added a fourth run in the third frame, after Harrison was beaned, and back-to-back hits from Steven Kirtides and Ralph. The Rangers defense continued to shine, allowing no runners in the fourth and fifth, and turned a double play to get out of the sixth. The Mountain Lions would load the bases in the top of the seventh, but Jensen Panansky took the mound, and forced a fly ball to get out of the inning.
A Linus Fleek single, along with a pair of walks, set him up to score on a passed ball. Another walk loaded the bases, allowing Jack Moulin to take an RBI walk and extend the lead to 6-1. However, UCCS came alive in the ninth inning, posting seven hits. Along with a Regis error, the Mountain Lions scored six runs, taking an 8-6 lead. Pettingill singled in the bottom of the ninth, but was left on base as the Rangers lost.
