DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Baseball team concluded their RMAC-opening series with Metropolitan State University of Denver on Monday afternoon, losing 16-8 and 9-5. The Rangers 9-13 (0-4 RMAC), while the Roadrunners improve to 13-6 (4-0 RMAC).
GAME ONE
The Roadrunners would immediately take control of the game, leading off with a double, and adding three RBI singles before the first out. They kept the bats going early, scoring a total of 10 runs in the top of the first, including a three-RBI homer. Mason Pettingill singled in the bottom of the inning, but a double play prevented the Rangers from scoring. MSUD added another run in the second with a lead-off solo homer. Gio Casas got the Rangers out of the inning with no more damage, and struck out two in a row in the third inning.
The Rangers would finally get on the board in the bottom of the fourth as Pettingill led off with a single, Ethan Wood followed with a double, and Mason Grube batted in the lead runner with a grounder. Jack Moulin then scored two more with a home run. After a scoreless fifth, Metro batted in a run with a triple to left field. However, Regis got that run back and more in the bottom of the frame, as Pettingill wore a pitch to earn a base, Wood was walked, and Grube batted in another run with a single. Wood was able to score later in the inning off a Roadrunner error.
The seventh inning saw a double, followed by an RBI triple and RBI-single to extend the MSUD lead to 14-5. A two-run shot in the top of the ninth pushed it to 16-5, but the Rangers tried for a comeback. Linus Fleek was walked, and Nicholai Arnold doubled, setting up a score on a passed ball. Bobo Iandoli added a double to score Arnold, while Pettingill doubled to bat in Iandoli. However, a change at pitcher ended the game, 16-8.
GAME NOTES
· Pettingill went 3-4, scoring two runs and batting in one

· Alejandro Maltos-Garcia (W, 1-1) earned the win with six strikeouts

GAME TWO
Following a quick first inning, Regis took the first lead of the game in the bottom of the second on a solo, lead-off homer by Moulin. Regis then loaded the bases with a Dylan Hearn single, George Smith walk, and Pettingill hit by pitch. Park Romney sent a sacrifice fly to right to score a run, Smith came home on a wild pitch, and Wood batted in Pettingill with a single.
However, Metro had a big response in the top of the third, taking the lead with five runs scored on four hits, including a solo homerun. Hearn was able to even the score in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single. Both teams recorded two hits without a run scored in the fourth, but Metro took back the lead in the fifth on an RBI single through the right side. After holding Regis to just one base runner in the bottom, they added to their lead in the sixth with a two-run homer over the left field fence, and solo shot in the ninth, brining the final score to 9-5.
GAME NOTES
· Hearn went 2-3 with an RBI and run scored
· Wood also batted in a run with two hits

· Michael Deitz was 3-4, scoring three runs and batting in three for MSUD
· Sam Fisher (L, 1-1) recorded the loss with three K's, while Michael Banderas (W, 1-0) picked up the win
