Regis Falls to MSU Denver in RMAC Opening Doubleheader

DENVER, Colo - The Regis University Men's Baseball Team hosted their RMAC opener against Metropolitan State University of Denver, who are Receiving Votes in the latest NCBWA Poll. The Rangers would fall in the first game 17-1, and the second 10-5. The Roadrunners improved to 11-5 (2-0 RMAC) while the Rangers now sit at 9-11 (0-2 RMAC). 

GAME ONE 

All three outs in the top of the first inning came via strikeouts from Rocco Harmon, but MSU Denver still managed to plate one run to take an early lead. The Roadrunners added another run in the second inning to go ahead 2-0. MSU Denver broke the game open in the fourth, erupting for seven runs on six hits to extend its lead to 9-0.

In the fifth inning, the Roadrunners launched a three-run home run to push the score to 12-0. The Rangers threatened in the bottom half of the inning when Ayden Harrison singled through left-center and Steven Kirtitdes followed with a single to right-center, but both runners were left stranded.

MSU Denver added two more runs to its total before the Rangers got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Park Romney doubled down the right-field line, and Harrison followed with a single to bring him home, cutting the deficit to 14-1. The Roadrunners responded with three additional runs in the seventh to close out the game via the run rule. The Rangers fell 17-1 in game one. 
GAME NOTES 

Harrison would record two hits on three at-bats with one RBI. 

The Rangers recorded six hits. 

Roadrunner Jake Syverson would get the win (2-0) while Rocco Harmon for RU would record the loss (1-2). 

GAME TWO 

The Roadrunners struck first, plating one run at the top of the first inning. Parker Burt opened the bottom of the second with a double down the left-field line, but the Rangers were unable to capitalize. Later in the inning, Bobo Iandoli doubled to left, and Jack Moulin followed with a single to advance Iandoli to third, but Regis could not push a run across.
MSU Denver extended its lead in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs on four hits to take a 4-0 advantage. Ethan Wood drew a walk in the bottom half of the inning, and Linus Fleek followed with a single up the middle, but the Rangers again left runners stranded.

The Roadrunners added five more runs in the fifth to stretch the lead to 9-0. Regis got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when Mason Pettingill launched a solo home run, cutting the deficit to 9-1 heading into the sixth inning.

MSU Denver answered with another run in the top of the sixth to make it 10-1, but the Rangers responded in the bottom half of the inning. Harrison opened the frame with a double, and Parker Burt followed with a single to score him. Dylan Perry then doubled to right-center, setting the stage for George Smith, who blasted a three-run home run to bring the Rangers within five at 10-5.
Despite the late push, Regis was unable to mount another rally in the seventh, falling to the Roadrunners 10-5.

GAME NOTES

Burt went 3-3 at the plate, with one RBI. 

Fleek would record two hits in four at-bats. 

Both Rangers and Roadrunners recorded 12 hits. 

RU's Ryan Chesser recorded the loss (0-3), while MSUD Brayden McCollough got the win (3-1)
