DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Baseball team completed their home series with Colorado School of Mines on Sunday afternoon, dropping the finale 13-14. The Rangers drop to 14-23-1 (5-14-1 RMAC), while the Orediggers climb to 15-23 (12-12 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mines opened the game with a lead-off triple, and took a commanding lead from there, scoring six runs on six hits in the top of the first. Singles by Linus Fleek, Jack Moulin, and Ethan Wood set up an RBI grounder for Parker Burt, but that would be Regis' only run in the opening frame. CSM scored another in the second on a wild pitch, but the Rangers began to cut into the lead, starting with a Nicholai Arnold single. Mason Grube and Fleek added two more hits to load the bases, setting up an RBI for Bobo Iandoli. Grube scored on an error, bringing the score to 7-3.
Nathan Ling struck out a pair of batters in the third, but two Orediggers reached home in the fourth on a two-RBI single. Following a scoreless fifth, both teams had a strong sixth inning. Mines posted a single, triple, and homer, going up 12-3, but Regis had a better answer. Parker Burt doubled, while Ayden Harrison wore a pitch and Grube was walked to load the bases. George Smith batted in two with a single, Iandoli sacrificed for another run, while Jack Moulin scored three with a homerun down the left line, cutting the deficit to 9-12.
The Orediggers kept their offensive momentum, scoring two runs on three hits in the seventh. Burt earned a single, and his pinch runner Derrick Krause made it to third on a pair of wild pitches. Smith batted him in, followed by a two-RBI single from Fleek, brining the game within two. Grayson Headrick was walked in the final inning, and scored on Smith's sac fly. However, the rally bid ended there, 13-14.
