GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Regis University Baseball team wrapped up their series at #1 Colorado Mesa University on Sunday afternoon, losing to MCU, 3-10. The Rangers fall to 14-27-1 (5-18-1 RMAC) on the season, while the Mavericks improve to 42-3 (28-0 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers opened the game with an Ethan Wood home run in the top of the first, taking an early lead. The Mavericks recorded a triple in the bottom, but Regis got out of the frame with no damage done. However, CMU was able to take the lead in the second, scoring on an RBI double and RBI grounder. RU had a response of their own in the third, starting with a Mason Grube double, followed by a George Smith sacrifice bunt and Linus Fleek RBI single. Wood then batted in Fleek with a center field single, putting the Rangers back up, 3-2.
The lead would flip again in the bottom of the third frame, scoring five runs on four hits, including back-to-back two-RBI doubles. Grube and Jack Moulin both earned bases across the fourth and fifth innings, but neither team found home. In the sixth, a Ranger error and four Maverick hits allowed three unearned runs to score. Wood singled again in the seventh, but RU left two runners on. Neither team recorded a hit for the rest of the game, leaving the final score at 3-10.
