LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Regis University Baseball team suffered a 12-18 loss to New Mexico Highlands University in their series finale on Sunday afternoon. The Rangers drop to 17-28-1 (8-19-1 RMAC), while the Cowboys improve to 11-35 (6-22 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Bobo Iandoli led off the second inning with a solo homerun, giving Regis the first lead of the game. In the third, George Smith led off with a single, Linus Fleek was hit by a pitch, and Ethan Wood was intentionally walked to load the bases. Park Romeny hit a first-pitch grand slam to go up 5-0. Ayden Harrison singled, and scored as the last out of the inning was recorded.
Both teams left two runners on base in the fourth, but Romney was walked in the fifth, and scored on Nicholai Arnold's sacrifice fly. The Cowboys began to battle back in the bottom of the frame, scoring four runs on two hits and four hit batters. The sixth saw another two runners being left on by each squad, while the seventh saw an Iandoli single, a Mason Grube single, a Smith single, and a Fleek single, brining in three runs. However, Highlands answered in a huge way, in the bottom, with 10 hits and two Regis errors, allowing 12 runs and putting NMHU up 16-10.
Three straight walks for RU in the eighth loaded the bases, and Arnold sacrificed to bring in Romney, and Dylan Hearn singled to bring home Iandoli. Four more Cowboy hits pushed the lead to 18-12, but Jack Moulin's double and Romney's HBP were not enough for a comeback in the ninth.
