NORTHBOROUGH, Mass.— The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) has released its weekly Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, and the RMAC Tournament Champions Regis are ranked #20.
Regis was #20 in last week's poll as well.
The Rangers hosted the RMAC Tournament for the seventh straight season, and ninth time overall. Seeded No. 1 in the tournament, RU hosted and battled No. 4 Colorado Mesa in the semi-final round. Following a close first-half, the Rangers dominated in the second, outscoring the Mavericks 8-2. Lexie Springman recorded seven points from four goals and three assists, while Aubrey Benton and Maggie Schipfer each scored five goals. Benton also added four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Abby Mays forced four turnovers, and Krista Munsinger controlled six draws. Brigit Goetsch recorded six saves in the goal.
In the Championship match, the Rangers continued their dominating performance. Regis led 11-0 at halftime, and won 14-5. Goetsch totaled 12 saves, passing 500 for her career, and picked up six ground balls. Evie Tanella led the game with six points from three goals and three assists. Benton and Schipfer both had three goals and one assist.
Regis earned the RMAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, and await their seeding and opponent in the Midwest Regional. The championship bracket will be released in a selection show on Sunday, May 3.
Regis was also ranked #20 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine weekly Top-20 Poll.
