NORTHBOROUGH, MASS. – The IWLCA has announced its weekly Player of the Week awards, recognizing the best offensive and defensive performances by players in Division I, II, III, and the NAIA each week, and Regis University's Brigit Goetsch has been named the Defensive Player of the Week.
This is Goetsch's first National Player of the Week honor, and the first Ranger since Megan Bunker was named the Offensive Player of the Week on March 25, 2024.
The graduate goalkeeper was dominant in the cage, leading the Rangers to their seventh straight RMAC Tournament title, and ninth overall. In the semifinals, No. 1 seeded Regis defeated No. 4 Colorado Mesa, 17-10. Goetsch allowed just two second-half goals as RU ran away with the lead. She had six saves, and one ground ball.
In the title match, the Maple Grove, Minn. native shut down No. 3 Westminster. She did not allow a first-half goal, as Regis led, 11-0 at the break, and won, 14-5. She totaled 12 saves and six GB as she was voted the MVP of the RMAC Tournament. She also surpassed 500 career saves in the win.
Goetsch and the Rangers earned the RMAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The championship bracket will be released in a selection show on Sunday, May 3.
