CCU Controls Doubleheader, Rangers Draw Series

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Regis University Baseball team lost to Colorado Christian University in both games of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, 3-6 and 10-14. The Rangers fall to 13-20-1 (4-11-1 RMAC), while the Cougars climb to 8-27 (4-16 RMAC).

GAME ONE

Ethan Wood started the game strong for Regis, hitting a solo homer in the top of the first inning, but no Rangers would reach in the second. The Cougars posted a single in the bottom of the inning, but Regis turned a double play to get out of the inning. Linus Flee doubled in the top of the third, but again, neither team scored.

With two outs in the top of the fourth, Parker Burt singled up the middle, while Bobo Iandoli was walked. Mason Grube singled, scoring Burt and putting RU up, 2-0. However, the CCU offense came alive in the bottom of the fourth, recording four hits, two doubles and two triples, and scoring four runs. Fleek added a homer in the fifth, but Colorado Christian extended their lead with another two hits, along with capitalizing on an RU error, bringing home two more runs. Regis did not earn a baserunner in the final two innings, losing 3-6.

·        Fleek also recorded two hits and an RBI

·        Mason Hagel-Pitt went 3-3, scoring twice for CCU

GAME TWO

The Rangers started the second game on fire. The first five batters all reached base, including singles by Jack Moulin, Wood, and Burt. The next two, Dylan Perry and Nicholai Arnold, recorded sacrifice flies, as George Smith's RBI single scored the fifth run of the opening inning. CCU got on the board in the second, scoring on a sac fly and wild pitch.

Arnold singled in the third, and Grayson Wren was walked, but the two were stranded on base. Cody Sheets struck out two batters in the bottom of the frame to make quick work of the Cougars. However, in the fourth, a three-run homer tied the game, and a sacrifice fly gave CCU the 6-5 lead.

Both teams left two runners on in the fifth, but the Cougars put together a huge sixth inning. Four hits, including a triple, and four walks helped them score eight runs. The Rangers tried to rally in the seventh, loading the bases behind singled from Wood and Ayden Harrison, and Burt wearing a pitch. Three straight singles by Perry, Arnold, and Iandoli scored three straight runs, and Smith's grounder and Fleek's sacrifice batted in two more. Moulin was walked, but the magic ended there, 10-14.
