HAYS, Kan. – The Regis University Men's Soccer team opened their 2026 season in a huge way, knocking off #3 Fort Hays State (Kan.), 1-0 on the road on Saturday night. The Rangers start the season 1-0, while the Tigers fall to 1-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FSHU would take the first shot of the game in the sixth minute, while Regis took their first attempt in the 20th, an on-target attempt by Liam Corr, which resulted in a team save. Jacobo Betancourt-Tovar added a second shot less than a minute later. The defensive stalemate would continue over the next 13 minutes before Regis keeper Zach Jennings earned his first save of the season, and recorded a second five minutes later.
Fort Hays sent a shot high and left five minutes into the second, while, following their first corner of the game, Betancourt-Tovar found the net at 56:39, giving Regis the 1-0 lead. Jennings kept the momentum with the Rangers immediately saving an ensuing Tiger shot. FSHU kept the pressure on, taking a pair of corner kicks, while Jennings saved another SOG. Matys Price put another shot on goal, and the defense took over from there, allowing just one more off-target shot by Hays over the last 16 minutes.

This is the Rangers highest ranked win since beating #1 Colorado School of Mines in 2010, and the first top-5 win since beating #4 Colorado School of Mines in 2021
