Box Score ALAMOSA, Colo. – Behind a dazzling start to the 2016 season, the No. 12 ranked Regis University men's soccer team (4-0-0, 1-0 RMAC) made their voyage to Adams State University (3-2-0, 0-1 RMAC) in the conference opener for both sides, earning the victory over the Grizzlies 2-1.
The first half was controlled by Regis just as it had been in the first three games of the season. ASU was held to only two shots in the first half, and although each of them reached their target, sophomore
Chase Webert was there to track down each attempt, making two saves and staving off the chances.
Senior
Tom Grimley connected on a header in the 36
th minute on a cross from freshman
Porter Milner that gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead in the opening half. The lead would stick for the rest of the first half as both teams headed into halftime with RU controlling the momentum.
Less than five minutes after the whistle to begin the second half, Grimley capitalized on yet another opportunity that fell to his feet as he torched the goalkeeper for his second goal of the game, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead minutes into the second half.
The only thing left for Regis to do was to preserve another shutout and continue their streak of games without conceding a goal. The Grizzlies had other plans as ASU's Leo Barba took a shot that found the back of the net in the 61
st minute, ending the shutout streak at 330 straight minutes to begin the season.
Although the home team broke the streak, the Rangers held onto the 2-1 victory in the end and move to 4-0-0 this season, capturing their first conference victory of the season in as many chances.
As a team RU outshot the Grizzlies 10-4, putting one more shot on goal (5-4) and also earning one more corner kick (5-4) than ASU. Regis received three yellow cards in the match with the Grizzlies earning one. Webert tallied his third victory of the season making three saves on four shots faced in the match.
The No.12 ranked men's soccer team will remain on the road and will now travel to Durango, Colo. to battle the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College (1-3-0, 0-0 RMAC) on Sunday, September 18 at 2:30 p.m.
