HAYS, Kan. - The Regis University baseball team (6-7-1, 0-0 RMAC) capped their weekend series with the Fort Hays State Panthers (1-11) Sunday afternoon with a huge win. RU lit up the scoreboard with their second-most runs of the season and 14 hits as they cruised to a 13-3 victory.
How it Happened: Junior
Colten Chase's RBI single gave Regis the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but FHSU responded with a trio of runs when they batted. But that didn't faze senior pitcher
Justin Kleinsorge (1-1) at all - those were the only runs that would be credited to the Rangers' ace.
Junior
Matt Marlow's three run jack gave the Rangers the lead back, 5-3. And from there, it was all RU.
Later in the fifth, Chase brought Regis' run total to six when he scored off of graduate student
Thomas Alexander's FC RBI.
Scoreless until the eighth, Regis piled it on after a Panther error and Marlow's RBI single. In the ninth, which was a home run derby of sorts, the Rangers scored four more runs. Alexander solo dinger and sophomore
Levi Padilla's two RBI homer really put Regis out of reach. In the end, Regis won the closer 13-3.
Game Notes: Regis scored 13 runs off 14 hits and had no errors.
RU won the four-game series 3-1.
Marlow had a season-high four RBI as he went 2-5 at the plate.
Senior
Miguel Marquez, Chase and Alexander were also 2-5 in the batter's box.
Alexander had three RBI.
Graduate student
Roger Riley had a game-high 11 putouts.
Chase's three assists were a team-high.
