Truex nets overtime winner, No. 12 Rangers top No. 13 Tampa on the road

TAMPA, Florida — The No. 12 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team remained undefeated and claimed a huge road win against a ranked opponent on Tuesday, edging out No. 13 Tampa University, 11-10, in the final seconds of overtime.

Junior midfielder Bailey Truex played hero for the Rangers (3-0 overall, 1-0 RMAC) as she cut in front of the net, fielded a pass from sophomore attacker Tia Krats, and snuck the game-winner past the Tampa goalie Alex Walling with just 14 seconds remaining in the overtime period.

The goal put an exclamation point on a sensational night for Truex as she led all Rangers with a career-high four goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Trailing 7-5 at the half and 8-5 nearing the midway point of the third quarter, the Rangers scored four unanswered goals spanning from the 9:35 mark of the third to 12:09 of the fourth quarter to take their first lead of the half.

Sophomore midfielder Lily Ferguson, who led RU with two ground balls and three caused turnovers, got the scoring run started with her fourth goal of the season, followed by scores from Krats, graduate student Kyleigh Peoples and senior attacker Alexis Parker.

The two teams would trade goals over the final 11:19 of the fourth quarter, with the Spartans drawing even at 10-10 with 2:26 remaining in regulation, to set the stage of Truex's overtime heroics.

Peoples and Krats each finished with two goals apiece, while Ferguson, Parker and junior Meg Hanson accounted for the Regis goal scorers Tuesday.

In net, freshman goalkeeper Brigit Goetsch moved to 3-0 overall on the season, producing a season-high eight saves.

KEY STATISTIC: After being outshot, 23-17, through the game's first three quarters, the Rangers' defense was stifling the final 21 minutes, limiting the Spartans to just four shots between the fourth quarter and overtime periods.

UP NEXT: The undefeated Rangers will look to keep their streak rolling next Wednesday when the team resumes RMAC action against Colorado State University Pueblo. The first draw is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Regis Lacrosse Field.
