Eleven different Rangers score, No. 3 Regis rolls to 20-4 road win over Westminster

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The No. 3 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team moved one step closer to capturing the RMAC regular season title on Thursday, earning a 20-4 road win over Westminster College at Dumke Field in Salt Lake City.

Regis (16-0 overall, 11-0 RMAC) currently leads the RMAC standings by a game over Colorado Mesa University, with the two conference rivals due to square off at 1 p.m. Saturday out in Grand Junction.

Eleven different Rangers would score in Thursday's rout of the Griffins (4-10 overall, 4-7 RMAC), led by graduate student Hannah Krats and true freshman Emily Spaeth with three goals apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Regis put the game away early, owning a 10-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and scoring the game's first 11 goals total before Westminster got on the scoreboard with 9:12 remaining in the second quarter.

The Rangers would maintain that double-digit lead at the half (13-2) and, with the score tighten to 13-3, Regis went on a 7-0 scoring run between the third and fourth quarters to put the game away.

Krats and Spaeth led seven Rangers players with multi-goal games on Thursday. Graduate student attacker Kyleigh Peoples, senior Maddie Northcut, junior Bailey Truex, sophomore Lily Ferguson and senior Alexis Parker all added two goals apiece, as well, to help pace the Rangers' offense.

Senior midfielder Lucy Johnson and a trio of freshmen in Sonja Coomes, Justine Spahr and Madeline Schallmoser all netted one goal apiece to round out the 11 goal scorers for Regis.

In net, sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Myotte picked up her sixth win of the season as she stopped four of the eight shots she faced. Myotte maintained her even .500 save percentage; currently the best save percentage among all RMAC goalkeepers.

GAME NOTES: The Rangers shared the ball extremely well on Thursday as they set a season high with 15 assists, led by Hannah Krats with four. Peoples and junior attacker Gabby Rothermund each added three assists, while junior defenseman Tara Davis notched two assists.

As a team, Regis owned a 43-9 advantage in shots and set a season high in shots on goal (34). Adding to their evening, the Rangers also won the turnover battle (19-12), ground balls (25-8) and draw controls (20-6) while finishing 15-for-17 on clear attempts.

UP NEXT: Regis will look to secure the program's fourth RMAC regular season title, and earn tournament hosting rights, when the team takes on Colorado Mesa University on Saturday in the regular season finale.

Per RMAC tiebreaker policies, the Rangers can win the RMAC title with a win on Saturday. Or if Colorado Mesa wins by less than eight goals.

Regis defeated the Mavericks (12-4 overall, 10-1 RMAC) by a 17-10 final when the two teams squared off on April 1 in Denver.

First draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Community Hospital Unity Field in Grand Junction.
