DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University men's soccer team opened up conference play on Wednesday and earned a point on the night, tying Metropolitan State University-Denver, 1-1.
Despite being down a man to begin the second half, the Regis (3-5-1 overall, 0-0-1 RMAC) defense rose to the occasion and kept the Roadrunners (6-1-2 overall, 0-0-1 RMAC) off the scoreboard to secure the 1-1 tie.
How It Happened: MSU-Denver wasted no time putting one on the board as Jonas Votaw crossed the ball to the right side of the net to Aidan Bates to score their only goal of the night in the seventh minute.
In the 69th minute, Rayhan Carlson-Du Toit attempted to even the score, but was tripped in the goal box near the left post. With a foul issued, Kristian Hooker took the penalty kick for the Rangers and buried the ball in the lower left corner past a diving goalkeeper.
Even with a red card putting the Rangers down a man, the remaining ten on defense outshined the Roadrunner offense, limiting them to seven shots in the second half and securing the tie.
