Rangers conclude southwest road trip with 75-62 loss to No. 15/17 Fort Lewis

DURANGO, Colo. — The Regis University men's basketball team concluded its southwest Colorado road trip on Saturday, settling for a split after falling by a 75-62 final to No. 15/17 ranked Fort Lewis College inside Whalen Gymnasium.

Saturday's game was a rematch of the 2022 RMAC Tournament quarterfinals; an 86-81 win by the Rangers down in Durango last March.

Regis (6-8 overall, 3-5 RMAC) finish the weekend with a split, earning a 79-77 victory over Adams State on Friday, while the nationally ranked Skyhawks improved to 13-1 overall and 7-1 inside the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Rangers went toe-to-toe with Fort Lewis in the first half, leading by four early on following a 3-pointer by senior forward Aaron Bokol at the 16:56 mark.
Bokol, Friday night's hero with his game-winner against the Grizzlies, would finish with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists on Saturday as one of three Rangers in double-figures.

Junior guard CJ Reed led all Regis scorers with 14 points in his 30 minutes off the bench, while graduate student forward Jas Singh added 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting in his 23 minutes as a reserve, as well.

In total, the Rangers finished the evening with a 36-19 advantage in bench points.

Unfortunately for Regis, the high-powered Skyhawks' offense — the RMAC leaders at 87.7 points per game — were able to create its separate nearing the midway point of the first half, going on an 11-2 run to boost their lead to 29-18 with 4:42 remaining in the half.

Fort Lewis would carry that lead 11-point lead into the second half and were able to keep the Rangers at a jabbers' distance the rest of the way to claim the 75-62 final.

GAME NOTES:
  • The Regis defense did a solid job on Fort Lewis junior guard Akuel Kot, the NCAA Division II leading scorer, as the Rangers limited him to 12 points Saturday on 4-for-12 shooting
  • Fort Lewis earned its edge Saturday on the interior, finishing with a 42-26 advantage in points in the paint
  • Sophomore guard Aidan Sevilla, playing in his first game since December 17, scored seven points in 23 minutes in his return from injury
UP NEXT: The Rangers will now turn their attention toward a three-game home stand, which begins next weekend with matchups against No. 7 ranked Colorado School of Mines (7 p.m. Friday) and crosstown rival Metropolitan State University of Denver (5 p.m. Saturday) inside the Regis Field House.
