GOLDEN, Colo. – The Regis University men's soccer team traveled west to take on the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers on Thursday with a total of 21 shots, their second-most on the season.
The Rangers (3-8-2 overall, 1-3-1 RMAC) racked up 21 shots on the night, but were unable to overcome the Orediggers (3-4-5 overall, 2-2-1 RMAC) and fell short, 2-0.
"I'm disappointed in the result. It felt like we dominated in large portions of the match but ultimately we weren't able to put the finishing touch on the ball when it counted," said Regis head coach, Taylor Diem.
How It Happened: The two teams traded blows the entire 90 minutes, with the Orediggers getting their first shot of the match 47 seconds in, but the Rangers wasting no time answering with their own in the second minute.
Regis continued to attack the Orediggers, but weren't able to find the back of the net. One of the Rangers' best chances came in the 16th minute with two back-to-back shots only 16 seconds apart from freshman midfielder Jacobo Betancourt-Tovar and sophomore defender Diego Berumen.
Colorado School of Mines scored their two goals of the match in the 56th and 83rd minutes.
Junior forward Rayhan Carlson-Du Toit led all Rangers in shots with nine, while freshman forward Liam Corr, whose future with the Rangers is looking bright, was second with five.
"Liam's got a lot of quality and is certainly starting to find some form so we definitely have high expectations for him moving forward," said Diem.
Game Notes:
- The Rangers and Orediggers were tied in shots on goal with eight
- Regis led the Colorado School of Mines in corner kicks, 6-2
- Sophomore goalkeeper Cristian Sattin finished the night with six saves
Up Next: The Rangers return home to take on MSU Denver on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 2:30.
