No. 8 Rangers put together balanced effort in 17-9 road win over Rockhurst

KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The No. 8 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team led wire-to-wire on Tuesday in its non-conference road class against Rockhurst University, rolling to a 17-9 victory out in Kansas City.

Nine different Rangers (2-0 overall) would score on Tuesday, led by a team-high four goals from freshman midfielder Shea Murphy in just the second game of her collegiate career.

"We were very happy with the complete team performance," said Regis head women's lacrosse coach, Sarah Kellner. "We had 11 different players put up points and we were really happy with the distribution of the ball on offense. As a group, we want to continue to get better and be meticulous about our possessions all over the field."

HOW IT HAPPENED: Regis opened the first quarter on a 5-1 run, receiving goals from five different players to take control of the game early with 4:25 remaining in the opening period.

After a low scoring second quarter, giving the Rangers a 9-5 lead at the half, Regis put the game away with a dominant third quarter.

Regis outscored the hometown Hawks, 5-0, in the third quarter to take a commanding 14-5 lead into the final 15 minutes.

Sophomore midfielder Madeline Schallmoser netted a career-high three goals, while graduate student Lucy Johnson also tallied three goals and junior Lily Ferguson added two scores.

Senior attackers Gabby Rothermund and Meg Hanson, senior midfielder Bailey Truex, junior midfielder Tia Krats and sophomore midfielder Becky Goetsch all added goals to round out the Rangers' scoring on Tuesday. The goals for Krats and Goetsch were their first scores of the 2023 season.

In net, sophomore goalkeeper Brigit Goetsch earned her second victory of the season after making five saves in the first half. Junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Myotte played the final 30 minutes, making two saves in her 2023 debut.

UP NEXT: The Rangers will continue their three-game road trip this week with a Thursday matchup against Missouri Western State University on Thursday. First draw is scheduled for 11 a.m. Mountain Time out in St. Joseph, Missouri.
