No. 3 Rangers close out weekend with 18-2 rout of Fort Lewis College

DURANGO, Colo. — The No. 3 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team closed out its southern Colorado road trip with another dominant performance on Sunday, cruising to an 18-2 victory against Fort Lewis College to remain undefeated in 2023.

As the team did Friday in its 19-3 thumping of Colorado State University Pueblo, Regis (9-0 overall, 3-0 RMAC) wasted little time capturing control of the game as the Rangers stormed out to a 7-0 first quarter lead over the hometown Skyhawks (0-7 overall, 0-4 RMAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED: Regis had six different goal scorers in the opening quarter, getting the game's scoring underway at the 12:59 mark courtesy of sophomore Madeline Schallmoser, who tallied her first of three goals on the afternoon.

The Rangers' offense would rattle off six more goals over the final 11 minutes and change of the first quarter, receiving two goals from senior midfielder Bailey Truex, who joined Schallmoser with three scores on Sunday.

Senior attacker Gabby Rothermund continued to pad her team lead in assists as she finished the afternoon with one goal and three assists, all coming in the first half, as the Rangers stormed out to a 10-0 advantage with 10:27 remaining in the first half before Fort Lewis was able to get on the scoreboard.

Graduate student midfielder Lucy Johnson would lead all scorers, tallying four goals for the second straight game during the weekend after also notching four scores in Friday's win over CSU Pueblo. Johnson now has 22 goals through the team's first nine games, ranking second on the team behind Truex at 24 goals.

Junior midfielder Lily Ferguson and sophomore attacker Justine Spahr each netted two goals, while freshman Shea Murphy, sophomore Becky Goetsch and junior Tia Krats all added one goal apiece to round out the nine different Regis scorers.

Defensively, sophomore Terah Skillings scooped up a career-high five ground balls while the Rangers as a team finished with a season-high 32 ground balls; topping the mark of 31 they set in a road win over Missouri Western State University on March 2.

Sophomore goalkeeper Brigit Goetsch earned her ninth win of the spring between the pipes, stopping two of the four shots she faced, while junior Elizabeth Myotte recorded a season-high five saves and didn't allow a goal after coming in to start the second half.

UP NEXT: The Rangers will now return home for a two-game home stand next week, starting with a 6 p.m. matchup against rival Colorado Mesa University at 6 p.m. Thursday. Regis then concludes Easter weekend with an 11 a.m. game Saturday against Westminster College.
