SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Regis University Women's Soccer finished their California Road trip on Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 loss to San Francisco State University (Calif.). The Rangers fall to 0-2, while the Gators improve to 1-1.
How it Happened
The Rangers would take the first shot of the match, an on target attempt by senior forward Stella Straubin just :46 seconds into the game. Junior forward Natalie Bunch would take a shot 10 minutes later, and freshman goalkeeper Maggie Payne had her first save of the day at in the 20th minute. SFS got on the board at 26:26 with a goal from Lauren François, assisted by Brynn Reyes. Senior midfielder Sarah Wynn would record one more shot before the half expired, but RU would still trial, 0-1.
Regis supplied the offensive pressure to start the second half, with a shot on goal by sophomore midfielder Elsa Nolen, another shot by Straunbing, and at 52:26, a goal by Wynn, assisted by Nolen. Payne recorded another pair of saves, but the Gators found the net again at 69:28 on an unassisted goal by Emily Gehrlein-Allen. Senior Defender Madison Cullinan had a shot on goal as time expired, but the Gators defense held on for the win.
Game Notes
· The Rangers totaled seven shots with four on goal. SFS took eight with five on target.
· Each team took six corner kicks
· Each squad committed one yellow card
· In the goal, both Payne and Cameryn Nunn had three saves.
