Rangers Hire Jason Kohler as Head Women's Basketball Coach

DENVER, Colo. – Regis University has officially announced the hiring of Jasan Kohler as the sixth head coach in the history of the Ranger women's basketball program.

"We are blessed to make this announcement. Coach Quintana-Kohler knows our mission; he knows our heart and came into the interview process with a strong plan and clear vision for Regis Women's basketball," said Athletic Director Tommy Gihooly.

Kohler is no stranger to Regis, first joining the women's basketball staff as a graduate assistant for the 2022-24 seasons. During that time, he played an instrumental role in one of the most successful stretches in program history.

In 2022-23, Kohler helped guide the Rangers to both the RMAC regular season and tournament championships, marking the program's first sweep of the conference crowns since 2006-07. Regis also advanced to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament for the first time since the 2016-17 season, led by four All-Conference selections: Erin Fry, Sam Deem, Josey Ryan, and Erin Stroberg. Fry highlighted the season with numerous accolades, including RMAC Player of the Year, RMAC Tournament MVP, First Team All-Region, and All-America Honorable Mention honors.

"I trust Jason to represent Regis Athletics at the highest level and cannot praise him enough for his due diligence, thoughtful approach, and willingness to gain strength through vulnerability. I was overwhelmed not only at the level of outreach from the current players and parents, but also the former women of the program who were adamant in sharing their personal experiences with him, which included his high level of character and his authentic care for them as human beings," said Gihooly.

The following year, Regis captured another RMAC Tournament championship in 2023-24 while tying a program record with 26 victories. Four players earned All-RMAC recognition, including one First Team honoree, and another was named to the D2CCA All-South Central Region Team.

Kohler was elevated to assistant coach for the 2024-25 season, entering his fourth year with the Rangers before now taking the reins as head coach. Across his three seasons on staff, Regis has amassed 64 victories, making it one of the best three-year stretches in program history. The Rangers also produced multiple professional players, consistent All-RMAC honorees, and strong academic performers, including Fry's 2023-24 RMAC Player of the Year campaign.

Outside of Regis, Kohler brings a wealth of coaching and player development experience. He spent two years coaching AAU basketball at multiple levels, including boys 3rd/4th grade, a 5th/6th grade National Team that saw several players go on to play in college, and a girls 7th/8th grade team.

After moving to Colorado, he served as a JV and Varsity Assistant Coach for over two years. Kohler also worked three years as a coach with Point Guard College (PGC), an internationally recognized player development program, and previously ran Jr. 76ers Summer Camps. Additionally, he has trained numerous overseas professionals as a skills trainer and development coach.

Kohler is an active member of the Rising Coaches network and the Latino Association of Basketball Coaches (LABC).
"He is not common, he's prepared for this role, he is one of us! A Ranger through and through! A special thanks to the finalist, the search committee, and the committee chair Robin Wheeler," concluded Gihooly.

"I am extremely grateful to be stepping into this role to lead our Women's Basketball program. After spending the previous three years becoming ingrained in this program and campus, being able to remain here at Regis is a privilege I am proud of," said Head Coach Jason Kohler.
"I know what our athletic department and university stand for, and I am beyond excited to be accepting the responsibility of leading this group of ladies and our future Rangers to a great career at Regis and beyond," concluded Kohler.

The Regis Women's Basketball Team starts their season at home against Eastern New Mexico University at 7:00 pm, November 14th.
