INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Regis University Women's Lacrosse team, ranked #6 in the most recent IWLCA Division II Coaches Poll, lost in their 2025 season opener, 9-8 to #11 University of Indianapolis (Ind.). The Ranger fall to 0-1, while the Greyhounds climb to 1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UINDY took the first lead of the game with a goal six minutes into the game, but Regis quickly responded after Megan Bunker won the ensuing draw control, leading to a Maggie Schipfer goal assisted by Becky Goetsch. Lauren Sheets had a shot on goal that was saved, and Bigit Goetsch saved two attempts by the Greyhounds, but Indianapolis scored with :23 second left for the 2-1 lead after one.
UI kept the momentum going with a third goal to start the second quarter. However, the Rangers took over with just under five minutes left, as Aubrey Benton scored on a Becky Goetsch assist, and Lexie Springman tied the match at 3-3 with a woman-up goal, assisted by Shae Murphy. Less than a minute later, Bunker gave Regis the lead, 4-3, with an unassisted goal.
UINDY evened the game yet again in the third, scoring in just over a minute, but Shipfer helped push the lead to 6-4, assisting on another Bunker goal, and scoring one of her own a minute later. The Rangers had two more shots on goal to end the quarter, but neither found the net.
The Greyhounds came out firing in the fourth quarter, managing to take the lead with three unanswered goals in the first five minutes. Bunker righted the ship, scoring on a free position shot to tie the game at 7-7, and Schipfer put RU back in the lead at 6:22, scoring on Springman's assist. Indianapolis scored with 2:25 left to bring the score to 8-8, and the Greyhounds would take the lead in the final moments of the game, going up 9-8 with just :14 seconds left.
