DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Lacrosse team, ranked #11 in the most recent IWLCA Top 25 Poll, defeated Westminster University (Utah), 18-6 for their first RMAC win on Sunday afternoon. The Rangers improve to 3-4 (1-1 RMAC), while the Griffins fall to 3-4 (0-2 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Becky Goetsch took the first two shots for the Rangers, landing the first on goal, and finding the net on the second. Shea Murphy followed that with another goal less than a minute later for the 2-0 lead. Lexie Springman added a third goal before the Griffins recorded their first score at 6:08. Megan Bunker controlled the draw, and took it all the way to the goal, and Madeline Schallmoser scored on a free position shot to extend the Regis lead to 5-1. Westminster responded with two quick goals, but Regis claimed the last score of the opening period with a Lauren Sheets goal.
RU carried the momentum into the second, as Alyse Valdez scored two goals, and assisted on Murphy's between multiple saves from Regis goalie Brigit Goetsch. WU broke the run, but Murphy forced a turnover, leading to a free position from Justine Spahr. In the final minute, Noemi Ramirez picked up a ground ball, leading to a goal, and Bunker controlled the draw, leading to another score.
The Rangers opened the second half with two shots on goal that were saved before Murphy earned a goal to bring the score to 13-4. A minute later, Terah Skillings caused a turnover, and Springman capitalized, scoring her second goal. Skillings then earned a goal of her own following a Gabrielle Beals caused turnover.
Schallmoser controlled the draw to open the fourth, and Kyla Bieker turned that into a 16-4 lead with an unassisted goal. The teams traded goal to close out the game, Regis getting contributions from Aubrey Benton and Case Carlson, claiming the 18-6 win.
GAME NOTES
