DURANGO, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Lacrosse team, currently ranked #17 in the latest IWLCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, delivered a commanding 17-3 victory over Fort Lewis College (Colo.) in a Sunday afternoon road matchup. The Rangers now hold a 5-4 overall record and a 3-1 mark in RMAC play, while the Skyhawks drop to 1-8 on the season and 0-3 in conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
To start the game,
Shea Murphy would score the first two goals for RU.
Brigit Goetsch would pick up a ground ball before
Justine Spahr would score, assisted
Becky Goetsch.
Lauren Sheets scored the fourth goal of the game, Spahr would get the draw control and
Aubrey Benton added a goal, 5-0 Regis, into the second quarter.
In the second, RU added four shots until Lexi Springman would find the back of the net, 6-0. Murphy would get the draw control and Be. Goetsch would add the seventh goal for Regis. After a turnover from Fort Lewis, Rangers added two more shots and Springman would score the eighth straight goal for RU from a free position. Fort Lewis would score their first goal with 8 minutes left in the second.
Noemi Ramirez answered with a goal, assisted Be. Goetsch. Br. Goetsch would add a save and Ramirez scored her second goal of the game, 10-1 Regis. Murphy added to her hot streak with a goal to end the half, 11-1.
The energy carried into the third, with a ground ball pick up from Springman and another Murphy goal. Valdez would get the draw control and Be. Goetsch added her second goal of the game and
Madeline Schallmoser would add to the score, 14-1 RU. Lauren Paulson entered as goalie, getting a save to end the quarter 14-2 Regis.
Megan Bunker would be the first to score for RU assisted
Kyla Bieker. The Skyhawks added their third goal, but Paulson would get two more saves. Rangers continued to capitalize on the Skyhawks with two goals from
Case Carlson, dominating 17-3.
GAME NOTES
Be. Goetsch totaled six points and Murphy had four.
Murphy led RU with four goals followed by Springman, Be. Goetsch, Ramirez, and Carson had two each.
Four different Rangers had two groundballs each.
Paulson and Br. Goetsch each had four saves.
Br. Goetsch recorded the win, with four saves for RU while, Lay Caley got the loss.
