DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Lacrosse team, ranked #15 in the most IWLCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, fell to #3 University of Indianapolis on Friday afternoon, 11-15. The Rangers drop to 3-3 on the year, while the Greyhounds improve to 6-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams would trade early goals, as Kyla Bieker assisted Maggie Schipfer less than two minutes into the game. From there, despite four Brigit Goetsch saves, UIndy scored four of the next five goals of the game, interrupted by a score from Lexie Springman.
Aubrey Benton and Abby Mays forced turnovers early in the second period, but after a Krista Munsinger goal that was assisted by Schipfer, the Greyhounds rattled off three quick goals for a 9-3 lead. Springman ended the run, followed by a nearly six-minute scoring drought. However, Springman earned a free position shot with 10 seconds left in the half, and connected, brining the score to 9-5 going into the break.
UI scored 30 seconds into the half, extending their advantage to 13-5, in spite of three more Goetsch saves. However, Springman scored again to get the Rangers back on the board, starting a 3-0 run for RU to end the period, with Schipfer scoring the other two.
UIndy halted the Ranger momentum with the first goal of the final period, but Lauren Sheets and Springman took it back, both connected on their free position opportunities. Stella Geffre, Sheets, and Mays all caused turnovers to keep the Greyhounds away from the goal, and Schipfer scored again late in the game, brining it back within three. However, UIndy scored an insurance goal, and ran the clock out from there, winning, 15-11.
