SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Regis University women's lacrosse team faced William Jewell College in a non-conference matchup Monday afternoon in Salt Lake City, Utah, defeating them 16-5. The Rangers improved to 4-4 overall (0-1 RMAC), while the Cardinals fell to 1-4 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither team found the back of the net for most of the first quarter. The Rangers fired off eight shots before finally breaking through when Maggie Schipfer scored off an assist from Rome Villani. After Aubrey Benton secured the draw control, Lexie Springman added another goal just 30 seconds later to extend the lead. William Jewell managed to score with 30 seconds remaining in the quarter, but Regis held a 2-1 lead heading into the second.
Benton opened the second quarter with a goal just 45 seconds in. Springman followed with back-to-back goals for the Rangers, though the Cardinals responded with one of their own to make it 5-2. After Krista Munsinger picked up a ground ball, Schipfer added another goal to keep up the momentum with Regis. Abby Mays then caused a turnover that led to a man-up goal from Lauren Sheets with two minutes remaining. The Rangers closed out the half with two more goals from Schipfer and Kyla Bieker, taking a commanding 9-2 lead into halftime.
Regis continued its strong play in the third quarter, beginning with a goal from Eva Searle. The Rangers added three more goals from Benton, Sheets, and Springman to extend the lead. With just over a minute remaining in the quarter, Evie Tanella found the back of the net to push the score to 14-3.
William Jewell opened the fourth quarter with a goal, but Benton quickly answered after a draw of control from Elle Enselman. Karis Wilson added the final goal of the game with two minutes remaining off an assist from Kyla Bieker, sealing a 16-5 victory for the Rangers.
GAME NOTES
Schipfer and Springman each recorded six points for RU.
Springman led with four goals; Schipfer and Benton each had three.

Rangers controlled the draw 15-8.
