DENVER, Colo - The Regis University Women's Lacrosse team delivered a dominant performance in RMAC play on Sunday afternoon, defeating Fort Lewis College, 18-1. With the win, the Rangers improve to 6-4 overall (2-1 RMAC), while the Skyhawks fall to 0-5 (0-3 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
Regis set the tone early, opening the game with a free-position goal from
Evie Tanella. A caused turnover by
Lexie Springman led to a ground ball pickup from
Lauren Sheets and another goal for Tanella. Goalkeeper
Brigit Goetsch came up with an early save, sparking a Rangers scoring run that included goals from Sheets and Benton to build a 4-0 lead.
Sheets added her second goal of the game off an assist from Springman with five minutes remaining in the first quarter. Springman continued to make an impact on both ends, forcing another turnover and converting it into a goal of her own. Kyla Beiker connected with Benton shortly after, giving Regis a commanding 7-0 lead at the end of the first.
The Rangers continued their momentum into the second quarter, as Beiker found
Rome Villani for the opening goal of the period. Goetsch remained strong in goal, making a key free position save to keep Fort Lewis off the board. Tanella and Sheets each added goals late in the half, with Sheets capitalizing on a caused turnover by the Skyhawks' goalkeeper. Regis entered halftime in complete control, leading 10-0.
Out of the break,
Abby Mays secured the draw control, setting up
Maggie Schipfer for another Rangers goal. Tanella added to her impressive day with another score, pushing the lead to 12-0. Springman capped off the third-quarter scoring, while
Izzy Schember stepped in at goalkeeper and recorded back-to-back saves to maintain the shutout through three quarters.
In the fourth,
Elle Enselman netted her first career goal to extend the Rangers' lead. Fort Lewis broke through with its lone goal of the game midway through the quarter, but Regis quickly responded.
Elle Erickson entered in goal and recorded her first career save, while Tanella and Sheets each added late goals.
Karis Wilson closed out the scoring with back-to-back goals, sealing an emphatic 18-1 victory for the Rangers.
