DENVER, Colo. – Regis University Athletics began September action this past week with five different teams competing across five different days of competition.
Below is a breakdown of all that happened last week while diving into our upcoming events this week:

TEAM UPDATES
VOLLEYBALL
The Rangers competed and co-hosted the Colorado Premier Classic this past weekend, with them and MSU Denver serving as hosts to one of the nation's top DII volleyball tournaments.
During the tournament the Rangers went 0-4 while taking fourth place in the bronze bracket. They faced off with the schools of #25 Central Missouri, #2 Wayne State (Neb.), #RV Anderson and #RV Bentley over the two days.
No. 5 in the nation, Ferris State, was crowned the champions of the top gold bracket while #3 Concordia St. Paul was the winners of the silver bracket. Anderson won the bronze bracket.
A total of seven schools ranked in the preseason attended this tournament with nine of them making the NCAA Tournament a season ago.
Week/Weekend Notes:
· Five different Rangers totaled 20 kills or more last week with Kailyn Polzin leading the team with 26
· Cady Knight led the team with 61 digs
· 21 service aces were managed by the Rangers with three players having four apiece
· Maddie Lynett and Nicole Shaver both totaled 60 or more assists over the five matches
Coming up this week the Rangers will now begin conference play when they host CSU Pueblo on Friday Sept. 11 at 7 PM and Colorado Christian on Saturday Sept. 12 at 3 PM.
CSUP comes into the week with a 3-6 record while CCU is 3-3.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Facing off with two in region opponents, the women's soccer team went 1-1 this past week as they fell in a 2-0 decision to #7 Dallas Baptist on Thursday night before bouncing back to beat St. Edward's, 2-1 on Sunday.
The Rangers have now won four straight meetings against the Hilltoppers with these games having a large impact on at-large bids for the NCAA Tournament down the road.
This was also the second year in a row that Regis and Dallas Baptist have faced off.
Weekend Notes:
· Of the Rangers' two goals on the weekend, only one was actually scored by the team with the first one against St. Edward's being an own goal
· Renata Larracilla scored the lone goal with it being the game winner and first of her career
· Paula Igual would record an assist on the score with this being her first point as a Ranger
· Four players on the team are now tied with one goal apiece
· Maggie Payne recorded seven saves in the net against St. Edward's which was a new career-high
Regis will now host two their final two nonconference games this week when they welcome Saint Martin's (1-2-1) on Thursday at 7:30 PM and University of Nebraska – Kearney (2-1-1) on Sunday at 11 AM.
Saint Martin's will be the third straight Christian university the Rangers face off with this season.
MEN'S SOCCER
The Regis men's soccer team recorded a 0-1-1 record this past week as they traveled to California for nonconference play against the ranked opponents of #25 Cal State LA and #18 Cal State San Bernardino.
During their trip, the Rangers narrowly fell in a 1-0 decision against Cal State LA on Thursday before battling to a 0-0 draw against Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday.
Regis has now started their season with three straight matchups against ranked opponents. New rankings will be released later today.
Weekend Notes:
· Regis took a total of 28 shots on their trip with 11 of them being on goal
· Zach Jennings recorded his second shutout of the season against Cal State San Bernardino
· Jennings would also record 12 saves over the two games while facing 26 shots
The Rangers will continue their nonconference portion of the season this week when they finally host their home opener against #10 Seattle Pacific (4-0) on Thursday at 5 PM before then closing out their weekend against Western Washington (4-0) on Sunday at 1:30 PM.
Both schools hail from the GNAC conference with each of them predicted to finish in the top three of the conference poll, including Seattle Pacific named as the favorite.
MEN'S & WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Both the men's and women's cross country teams officially opened their fall season this past weekend when they took part in the UCCS Ruster Buster at Monument Valley Park.
The men's team ran in an 8K while the women's team did a 5K with each of the races occurring on Saturday morning.
A total of six collegiate schools competed in the event with three of them being from the RMAC.
On the women's side, Ainara Sainz de Rozas won the race in her Ranger debut with a time of 17:07.7 which set not only a course record but a new school record as well.
She was joined in the top 10 by Allie Braney who took sixth place with a time of 18:18.2 to beat her previous event time event by 20 seconds.
For the men, Liam Chavez led the group finishing in the top 25 of the field with a time of 27:01.5 for a new personal best in his career.
Five other men and women would race on the day as well.
Both teams look for their next race to be on Sept. 19
th when they race in the Roadrunners Invite at Washington Park.
